What information do we collect?
We do not automatically collect the full e-mail address of visitors to our site. We only obtain information when you provide it to us through a registration process or when you post to the site. We do collect the names of the sites that referred you to Body1, but this information is not linked to any personal information. We collect the IP number which may be linked to the domain names (for example knee1.com or bu.edu) of a visitor’s server.
How do we use the collected information?
Body1.com solely owns the information collected on this site. We will not sell, share, or rent this information in any way other than what we disclose in this statement. Body1.com collects information from our users at several points on our Web site so that we can improve our Web site and determine the number of visitors to each page.
In order to use parts of this Web site, a user must first complete the registration form. During registration a user must to give his or her contact information (such as name and e-mail address). We only use this information to contact the user about services for which they have expressed an interest. The user may have the opportunity to provide demographic information (such as gender), but we encourage the user to provide this information in order to provide a more personalized site experience.
We currently have no plans for commerce on this site but should we change this policy, we will follow the following procedure. We request information from the user on our order form. On the form a user must provide contact information (such as name and shipping address) and financial information (such as credit-card number and expiration date). We use this information for billing purposes and to fill customers’ orders. If we have trouble processing an order, this contact information helps us to get in touch with the user.
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s hard drive containing user
information. Usage of a cookie in no way links any personally identifiable
information of a site visitor. Once the user closes his or her browser,
the cookie simply terminates unless the user has specifically opted to have
his or her password saved. For instance, by setting a cookie on our site,
the user would not have to log in a password more than once, thereby saving
time when on our site. If a user rejects the cookie, he or she may still
use our site; however, that user will be limited in some areas of our site.
For example, the user may not be able to participate in forums or other
interactive areas of the Body1 community. Cookies also enables us to track
and target the interests of our users to enhance their site experience.
We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track users' movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.
We will share aggregated demographic information with our sponsors, partners, and advertisers. This information is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person.
If we partner with another party to provide specific services, i.e. purchase of products or books, newsletter subscriptions or requests for more information. When the user signs up for these services, we will only share names, or other contact information that the third party needs to provide these services.
These parties cannot use personally identifiable information except for the purpose of providing these services.

If a user wishes to subscribe to our newsletter, we ask for contact information such as name and e-mail address.

Occasionally, our site requests information from users via surveys, polls,
or contests. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary
and the user therefore has a choice whether to disclose this information.

The Body1 Network takes every precaution to protect our users’ information.
When users submit sensitive information via our Web sites, we protect your information both online and off line.
The interactive features on the Body1 Network (including forums, patient stories and moderated chats) allow patients
to share information with the entire Body1 community. Please be advised if you use these
public areas on the network, the private information you choose to publish will be accessible
to others using these areas. If you use your e-mail address in a forum in response to a
question, your address will be able to be viewed by anyone who visits the forum. Therefore,
any information you want to keep private, should not be posted in discussion areas.
The Body1 Network monitors the forums, patient stories and other interactive parts of our Web
sites. We reserve the right to remove posts that are inappropriate, abusive or not relevant to
Body1’s mission of patient healthcare education.

Supplementation of Information
We currently have no plans for commerce on this site but should if we change this policy we will follow the following procedure. In order for this Web site to properly fulfill its obligation to our customers, we must supplement the information we receive with information from third- party sources.
We send all new members a welcome e-mail to verify password and username. Established members will occasionally receive information on products, services, special events, and a newsletter. Out of respect for the privacy of our users, we present the option to decline these types of communications.
Site and Service Updates
We also send the user site and service-announcement updates. Members cannot unsubscribe from service announcements, which contain important information about the service. We communicate with the user to provide requested services regarding issues relating to their account via e-mail or phone.
Correction/Updating Personal Information:
If a user’s personally identifiable information changes (such as his or
her zip code), or if a user no longer desires our service, we will endeavor
to provide a way to correct, update, or remove that user’s provided personal
data. This adjustment can usually be done at the member information page.

When we ask for information, we give our users the opportunity to “opt-out” of having their information used for purposes not directly related to our site. For example, our order form has an “opt-out” mechanism so users register with us; however, they can decline any marketing material or newsletter updates and restrict their e-mail address from our lists.
Users who no longer wish to receive our newsletter or our partner’s promotional materials may opt-out of receiving these communications by replying to unsubscribe in the subject line of the e-mail or they can e-mail us at [email protected].
Notification of Changes
We may design some sections of Body1.com specifically for use by teens under the age of 18. Contact information such as their names, e-mail addresses, and demographic information, such as their ZIP codes or ages, may be requested in those sections. In such cases, we will notify teens to obtain permission from their parents before providing such information.
Body1.com does not disclose personally identifiable information about users under 18, regardless of whether an approval is obtained. Information about users under the age of 18 may be shared with third parties on an aggregate basis. Parents and those permitting minors who use the Body1.com Web site should be aware that any information voluntarily given by teens in chat sessions, e-mail exchanges, forums, etc., may be used by third parties to generate unsolicited mail or other contact with children.
